Train Station 1 “The Mostly Empty Car”
A couple of days ago, and I was waiting for the train at the local station. It had been a long day, and I was looking forward to heading home. As I was waiting, I took note of the other people waiting with me. It is a habit I have picked up over the years. “People watching” is what my mom called it. It was during this process that I began to notice an increasing number of police officers converging on either side of the tracks. They were wearing their vests, and were clearly waiting for the train to arrive.
One of them said hello to me, and I responded in turn. They asked me where I was from, and I admitted that I wasn't from around the area but still lived rather close by. They said I had an accent, and then continued on their way down the platform.
Several minutes later the train arrived, and it did not take long for me to realize what they were waiting for. As the cars were passing to a stop, I noted that one of them had only two passengers. This was strange, as the other cars were full of people. One was an extremely tall, dour looking woman with long features and stringy hair. Her eyes were a pale blue and on her lips was poorly applied lipstick.
The other was an extremely short male devoid of all hair, with a deep blank stare. His eyes were small for his head, and his ears were surprisingly large. They were simply sitting next to each other, and as the train slowed to a stop they remained still, moving very little.
I could not determine how the man and the woman were related to one another, and it wasn't until I noticed the matching wedding bands that I made the connection. It would seem that is shouldn't have been possible for me to see it, but every couple of seconds they would reached up towards one another and gently caress each other’s cheeks. Then they would simply return to the position in which they were before, blank stares looking out the windows of the car.
Several of the police made their way over to the car, while the other passengers got off the train and were led away. I was moved away as well, but managed to find a spot where I could still get a view of what was going on. After all the other passengers had been led away, the police went to either side of the train car and headed inside. Even at the distance I was at I could hear the officers yelling as they entered, though what they were saying specifically I could not determine.
The couple continued to not move even as the police continued to advance. It seemed at first that the couple weren't going to react at all. The officers soon were surrounding the couple, neither the police or the husband or wife making a move. This continued for nearly half a minute, until at last one of the officers grabbed the woman by the wrist. Surprisingly, she began to stand up, and it seemed that they were simply going to walk away peacefully. Then one of the officers grabbed the short man, and it was only then that things got violent.
The woman let out a strange howl and brought her large fist crashing down on top of the officer’s head. She then pulled her wrist out of the other officer’s grasp, pulled her arm back, and in a swift motion brought it careening against the side of the officer’s skull.
The officers crumpled against the sides of the car, as four more officers converged and took her down. I could not get a good look at what was happening, but when at last she was lifted from the ground they had bound her with heavy restraints. The injured officers were carefully removed from the car, the husband following slowly as his wife was dragged from the car, thrashing and biting along the way. I thought she had been cut when she fell, because her nose and a portion of her clothes were covered in blood.
After a great amount of time, they managed to get her clear of the train and brought her to an awaiting police car. However, as they tried to get her inside the vehicle she became even more violent, her body becoming even more ridged, making the prospect of placing a woman of her height into the vehicle quite difficult. As the police struggled, one of the female officers from the train looked on.
Then, after several moments, she went to the short man and directed him to his wife. He then reached over to her and gently squeezed her hand. His wife stopped struggling and looked down at him, then suddenly calmed and obediently headed into the car.
Soon after she was inside, her husband followed, the officers only relaxing once the door was closed. As the officers went to drive away, I saw the short man reach up and gently brush his hand against his wife's cheek. Then silently and without hurry, she leaned over and placed her head onto his shoulder. Then the female officer entered the driver’s side, started the car, and drove away.
I later talked to some of the people who had been on the train. They all seemed rather hesitant to talk about what happened before the train arrived, and when I rephrased my questions to ask why they were so tightly packed in the other cars, they simply said it was a holiday that day, and so heavy traffic was expected. However, there is no local or national holiday on the day of the occurrence, leaving me to wonder why they would purposefully lie, and dodge my questions.
Only the conductor was willing to say anything on the issue, stating rather mysteriously that he had put a call out for the police after the couple had made the other people on the train “uncomfortable.” When I tried to find out anything further, the man simply walked away, stating he had something worked related to get to. I have since spoken with the police, and they stated they could not provide information on the ongoing investigation. The two injured officers are currently recovering in the hospital. They were only moved out of emergency services after x-rays revealed no permanent damage, though both had to have stitches.
I have tried to get additional information, but unfortunately this was virtually all I could find out. I have not at this point been able to find out what happened to the couple, nor have I discovered what happened to cause such a large police response. My only clue, which only helps to deepen the mystery, was the large amount of blood that caked the officer’s boots as they exited the train that night.
