Case File 2 “Something in the Pipes”
Years ago, the temperature in the area began to inexplicably drop, falling nearly thirty degrees over the course of several days. The overcast sky, temperature, and long nights, began to take their toll on the night life, as increasingly locals began to spend more time indoors, getting to the point when even the local theater had to temporarily suspend several shows due to lack of interest. This strange set of circumstances brought about many repercussions, but none stranger than when several of the residents began to on mass report clogs in their drains. The events that followed occurred over the course of several days, and mysteriously “ended” after several residents made claims that something in the pipes was looking up at them.
It started off with reports of poor drainage in people's homes. These were shortly followed by claims of what sounded like movement in the pipes, like there was something loosely tumbling within them. However, every investigation that was carried out during that period would find the examined sections to be cleared of debris no matter how prevalent the clogs were originally. After each investigation the trouble with drainage would subside for a couple of hours, but would invariably return. At first many of these cases were assumed to be caused by the pipes freezing, a problem that can be common in older buildings.
Yet as more and more cases began to emerge, it became increasingly clear that this was not a true pattern as homes of all types seemed to have been affected.
At around midnight, several calls were made to emergency services after several members of the local population began to develop fitful, violent sleep patterns. Several were taken to the local hospital but were unable to be broken out of the semi-comatose state. Their condition only changed at around four in the morning when all of the patients afflicted with the disorder mysteriously awoke. Strangely, they all seemed to be suffering some sort of deep nightmare, though upon awakening they were unable to deliver any details concerning what the nightmare had been about.
The only piece of evidence that could be provided was a single phrase that all the victims seemed to be able to remember; “come together.”
These reports continued to increase for a few hours, and then eventually stopped altogether. For several hours nothing out of the ordinary was reported. Then at the early hours of the morning, a call was made to the local animal control that left many puzzled.
According to the female owner of the home, they had gone to take a bath and had turned on the water. They were grabbing some things for the tub when they realized they didn't hear the water running anymore. They came back to investigate, only to discover that the water was off and some off colored thing was settled in around three inches of water. It did not have a set shape though it had a great number of stringy bits similar to tentacles. This was later confirmed by a picture that had been taken by the owner.
The owner claimed that the thing was in very real duress and seemed to shudder as it breathed. She did not know what it was and so called animal control to have them investigate. However, by the time services arrived the creature had mysteriously disappeared from the tub, leaving the photograph as the only evidence of the owner’s claims. The photo is heavily suspect, though investigations have suggested that no tampering had occurred.
Around six in the morning the temperature began to rise again, and over the course of several days returned to a state a little below normal. The shows that had been suspended were once again put back into production, and life in general returned to something close too normal. Only the people who had experienced the nightmares continued to have issues, and claimed to have trouble sleeping for several weeks afterward, unable to get the strange phrase from their minds.
Investigations into the pipelines as well as the tub of the young woman revealed a foreign biological agent was present, but all tests proved inconclusive and the findings were dismissed as being a fluke. There have been smatterings of reports since that time of strange noises in the pipes, as well as reports of what people claim to be eyes staring up at them from deep within the drains. However, none of these claims have been substantiated and no further evidence has been brought forward to help explain what happened.
